A massive island dominated the original kitchen and closed off the cooking area from the casual dining room. The homeowners wanted to create a more open space without sacrificing the large storage capacity provided by the cabinets with special attention to budget and energy efficiency.
Working closely with the interior designer, a new kitchen layout grew to meet their needs. The cooktop moved from the island to along the wall where a proper hood could be installed. Greatly reducing the overall size of the island allows for open movement from the kitchen to the family room, which accesses the exterior patio. In addition to some new cabinets, several existing cabinets were painted and reused in different locations. To complete the renovations a new hardwood floor was selected with a stain color to match the existing parquet floor.
The color selections and the brilliant glow of energy efficient LED lighting significantly brighten a previously dark and closed-in space. By reusing existing elements of the original kitchen and carefully considered finishes, we were able to transform their out-of-date space into the homeowners’ dream kitchen.
